Not Feeling Like Yourself After Kids? See If A Mommy Makeover Is Right For You

A mother holds her child while considering if a mommy makeover procedure is right for her.

From pregnancy to child birth and after, your body goes through an incredible amount of changes. Oftentimes, after giving birth to one or more children, it’s more difficult for the body to bounce back to how it was before, even with diet and exercise. To help postpartum women feel more like themselves after these big life moments, the Mommy Makeover surgery was created.

At Dr. Wendel’s office, this takes the form of one longer surgery that can include a breast augmentation, reduction, or lift, a mini or full tummy tuck, liposuction, and a labiaplasty. The procedures performed are selected through consultations with the patient and provider and based on the cosmetic goals of the patient.

Breast Lifts, Augmentations, and Reductions

Each patient may want something slightly different within their Mommy Makeover in regard to the chest part of the surgery. Luckily, there are plenty of options including an augmentation and lift combination, a reduction, or regular lift.

For a breast augmentation and lift, the patient and provider decide the type of implant and size for the desired result. Even with implants, breastfeeding mothers are able to produce milk and continue breastfeeding, but waiting until you’ve finished breastfeeding can help avoid potential difficulties. Doing an augmentation as well as a lift allows the skin that likely stretched or began sagging during and after pregnancy to be readjusted and tightened.

A breast lift by itself is best for patients who simply want to reduce some sagging or loose skin. A lift is essentially restoring the breasts to the position they originally held, although throughout pregnancy and postpartum, breasts may deflate or grow. Because of this common, natural occurrence, some women opt for the augmentation as well as lift to add back some lost volume. Discussing your goals before deciding on the procedure is especially important for this reason.

As previously mentioned, breasts may grow and retain their larger size after having children. Because of this, some Mommy Makeover patients may seek a breast reduction to balance out their proportions.

Mini and Full Tummy Tucks and Liposuction

Depending on the goals of the patient, a mini or full tummy tuck can be performed during the multi-faceted Mommy Makeover surgery. This part of the procedure addresses loose skin and excess fat in the abdominal area. If you are not seeing results from diet and exercise postpartum, a tummy tuck may be an aspect of the makeover you wish to include.

A less invasive procedure that can be included to get rid of unwanted fat deposits in various spots around the body is liposuction. This allows for fat reduction and contouring to give patients the proportions they prefer.

Labiaplasty

After a vaginal birth, labia minora and labia majora often feel and look different, leading to discomfort and potential risk for infection. To restore this sensitive part of the body, a labiaplasty can be performed, providing the patient’s desired appearance.
